Over the past 2 decades, Rynae has served ethnically and culturally diverse children from both affluent and underserved communities in a multitude of ways. The birth of her first child led her on a journey to uncover alternative methods of education and introduced her to the wonderful world of Montessori. Rynae attended The PEACE Program’s Baby & Me group with her daughter and fell in love with Montessori at all ages! Rynae plans to employ principles inspired by Montessori in support of students and caregivers in communities of color to increase awareness and accessibility to alternative methods of education. She has one daughter and lives on the unceded territory of Irgin, the ancestral land of the Lisjan Ohlone People (Hayward, CA) with her fiance.

Rynae was The PEACE Program’s 2020 Scholar and despite starting a 0-3 training that was delayed due to COVID-19, Rynae shifted gears mid-year to catch up and complete her AMI 3-6 diploma through Montessori Northwest. Rynae is now a PEACE facilitator who conducts workshops, trainings and home visits!

Here’s what Rynae had to say about her scholarship year

One thing that seems to be lacking from Montessori teacher training is in depth coaching on parent communication and parent education. Working with the PEACE program has provided me with practical experience doing just that, and as a result, has given me a more holistic training experience.

Throughout my time working with the PEACE program, I’ve had the opportunity to participate in weekly parent groups, and even host a few groups and workshops on my own. Mariana was always present to observe and offer constructive feedback that highlighted my strenghts and also outlinged areas of improvement. It has been such a pleasure working with someone who is so incredibly knowledgable about Montessori pedagogy. Meeting with her to discuss theory and application in real time has benefited me greatly throughout my course.

Participating in this paid interneship certainly releived some of the financial stress that is brought on by being a full-time student and mother. I was able to purchase all of my books and even some materials for practice at-home. AMI trianing is no easy feat. Having Mariana as a resource, paired with access to parent-work through the PEACE program has helped me make connections between the theory that I was reading about and real life application. I know I will be a better Guide as a result of this experience.
