Trans Day of Visibility
Today is a day about visibility, joy, & celebration.
The International Transgender Day of Visibility was founded in 2009 by Rachel Crandall, the Executive Director and co-founder of Transgender Michigan.
This is a day of visibility, celebration of the successes of transgender and gender-nonconforming people, and for March 31, 2023, is a day of support to oppose and reject the overwhelming push of anti-trans legislation in the US right now.
To my Trans community members, you are important and matter in this world. If your kid/s are trans, give them visibility today. Play with them, listen to them, and celebrate them. Take care of yourselves today.

LISTEN TO THE TRANS COMMUNITY

LISTEN TO THE TRANS COMMUNITY
No group is a monolith so it’s important to hear from many voices to get a fuller picture of what’s going on. Keep in mind that white supremacy is at the root given that so many cultures around the world recognize multiple gender identities and it is the man/woman binary that is a white-colonial construction. Therefore, center voices who are Black, Indigenous, and of the Global Majority as you are listening because the same oppressive tactics are being re-used.
Listening is listening. That’s an act without anything else.
LEARN FROM YOUR LISTENING

LEARN FROM YOUR LISTENING
Use what you are hearing, reading, understanding to actually see the world differently. Update your perspectives. Handle your defensiveness on your own and then come back to learn more.
Listening without learning is purely an intellectual exercise. If you are truly listening, you are growing, you are changing, you are updating.
ACT IN SERVICE

ACT IN SERVICE
Acting in service means you’ve done the listening and the learning parts first. Then, you apply the listening to listen again from the community targeted by oppression of ways to be of service. Hear nothing? Continue listening and learning. Performative acts are a complete distraction.
You can amplify voices without adding your take. That could be reposting, sharing, commenting a supportive emoji (so algorithms make the creator’s post more visible).
